Daniel C. Herz is a seasoned energy executive and SPAC sponsor who currently serves as Co-Executive Chairman and Director Nominee of Osprey Acquisition Corp. III (NASDAQ: OSPR), a Philadelphia-based special purpose acquisition company that raised approximately $261 million in its July 2026 IPO targeting companies deploying disruptive technologies and next-generation infrastructure to modernize energy systems. He is also the Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of WhiteHawk Minerals (WhiteHawk Energy, LLC), where he sets corporate vision, drives strategic execution, and leads day-to-day operations. Herz is based in the New York metropolitan area and resides in Demarest, New Jersey. He has also served as an independent director of Presidio.
Herz earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Indiana University Bloomington in 1999 and began his career as a financial analyst and then financial associate in the energy investment banking group at Banc of America Securities. In December 2004, he was recruited to join Atlas Energy, Inc. and Atlas Pipeline Partners GP, LLC as Vice President of Corporate Development. He was promoted to Senior Vice President of Corporate Development of Atlas Energy, Inc. and Atlas Energy Resources, LLC in August 2007, a role he held until the entities' sale to Chevron Corporation for $4.3 billion in February 2011. Concurrently, he served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development of Atlas Pipeline Partners GP, LLC from August 2007 until its sale to Targa Resources, Inc. for $7.7 billion in February 2015. From February 2011 through that 2015 Targa transaction, he also held the title of Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy of the general partner of Atlas Energy, L.P., and from March 2012 to April 2015 he held the same role at the general partner of Atlas Resource Partners, L.P.
In April 2015, Herz was elevated to President of Atlas Energy Group, LLC (NYSE: ATLS), serving until October 2018. He became Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Resource Partners, L.P. (NYSE: ARP) in August 2015 and transitioned to Chief Executive Officer of its successor, Titan Energy, LLC (NYSE: TTEN), in September 2016, holding that position through October 2018 while continuing as a Class A Director through April 2021. He also served as President and director of Atlas Growth Partners, L.P. from its inception in 2013 until 2018. In August 2018, Herz founded Falcon Minerals Corporation (NASDAQ: FLMN), a publicly traded minerals and royalties company focused on the Eagle Ford Shale, serving as its President and Chief Executive Officer from inception and joining its Board of Directors in May 2020, holding both roles until June 2021. He subsequently founded WhiteHawk Minerals, where he continues to lead.
Throughout his career, Herz has arranged the purchase and sale of more than $20 billion worth of companies and at various times has managed more than 1,500 employees and 2,000 contractors. His track record includes the Chevron acquisition of Atlas Energy for $4.3 billion, the Targa Resources acquisition of Atlas Pipeline/Atlas Energy LP for $7.7 billion, and the Osprey Energy merger with Royal Resources, after which he was appointed Chief Executive Officer and President of the combined entity. At Osprey Acquisition Corp. III, he works alongside Co-Executive Chairman Jonathan Z. Cohen, Vice Chairman Edward E. Cohen, and CEO David Heikkinen, all of whom have ties to the WhiteHawk and broader Atlas energy ecosystem. Beyond his corporate roles, Herz serves as President of the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey, continuing a deep family legacy of Jewish communal leadership that spans multiple generations on both sides of his family.
This record is keyed to SEC CIK 0001516921 — the identifier this person files under in their own name. Every vehicle above is a filing made under that CIK, so “the same person on two shells” is a fact about an SEC identifier rather than about a name that happens to match.
Roles are the strings the filings used, in the order they were filed. Nothing on this page ranks them, infers seniority, or offers a reason why any two of these names recur — a recurrence is a count, and the filings that produced it are linked beside every row. We also hold 3 institutional-holder rows on these vehicles, under 3 distinct name strings, and none of them is counted across vehicles: that table has no CIK column, and matching holders by name would merge firms that are not the same firm.
