Ramin Kamfar is a New York-based real estate executive and investor who serves as the Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Bluerock, a national real estate investment firm he established in 2002. With over 25 to 30 years of experience in finance, investments, and operations, Kamfar has built Bluerock into one of the nation's most respected real estate investment sponsors, overseeing more than $18 billion in assets under management and approximately 13.5 million square feet of property across 13 states. He currently serves as Chairman and CEO of Bluerock Homes Trust, Inc. Kamfar's career spans investment banking, entrepreneurship, and real estate. From 1988 to 1993, he worked as an investment banker at Lehman Brothers in New York, specializing in mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance. From 1993 to 2002, he built a startup into a leading public company in the fast-casual restaurant market, now known as Einstein Noah Restaurant Group, Inc. In 2002, he founded Bluerock and has served as its Chairman and CEO since its inception. He previously served as Chairman of the board of directors and Chief Executive Officer of Bluerock Residential Growth REIT, Inc. (NYSE: BRG) from August 2008 to October 2022, during which time the company acquired institutional-quality apartment properties in growth markets across the United States. Under his leadership, Bluerock invested in nearly 92 communities totaling more than $4 billion in capital over an 11-year period and tripled in size in terms of revenues and assets during 2014–2015 alone, with a development pipeline that grew as large as $1 billion. Kamfar holds an M.B.A. degree with distinction in Finance from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (1986–1988) and a B.S. degree with distinction in Finance from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Among Kamfar's most notable deals was the December 2021 sale of Bluerock Residential Growth REIT to affiliates of Blackstone, led by Stephen Schwarzman, in a transaction valued at approximately $3.6 billion. He has also been a pioneer in the interval fund space, leading Bluerock's Bluerock Total Income + Real Estate Fund (TIPRX) to become the largest real estate interval fund and second largest of all interval funds, with more than $6 billion in assets, and successfully guiding investors to back a vote unlocking daily liquidity for the fund. His firm, Bluerock Value Exchange, specializes in Delaware Statutory Trust (DST) investment opportunities across multifamily, office, retail, and industrial sectors, with closed offerings including the Bluerock BR Churchill Downs DST ($37.8 million equity offering), Bluerock Diversified Industrial Portfolio V ($36.7 million), and Bluerock BR Amira DST ($66 million). Kamfar is based in New York, New York, and is also noted as an angel investor.
