Entrepreneur, executive, technologist and seasoned advisor with more than 25 years of industry experience, currently serving as manager of Mehana Management LLC.
Dustin M. Shindo is an entrepreneur, executive, technologist, and seasoned advisor with more than 25 years of industry experience, currently serving as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pono Capital Four, Inc., a special purpose acquisition company that closed a downsized $120 million IPO on March 16, 2026, trading on Nasdaq under the symbol PONOU. Pono Capital Four is the fourth SPAC vehicle sponsored by Mehana Capital LLC, based in Honolulu, Hawaii, and targets disruptive technology firms with enterprise values between $300 million and $600 million, leveraging the team's experience in U.S. and Japanese markets. D. Boral Capital LLC served as sole book-running manager for the offering. Shindo also serves as the managing member of Mehana, a position he has held since January 2023. In addition to his SPAC leadership, he has been the Chief Executive Officer of Junify Corporation since 2017, a Palo Alto-based startup operating in California and Japan that offers zero trust network access software to help companies secure their cloud resources.
Shindo's career spans multiple industries and includes four IPOs and over $2 billion in sales. From March 2001 to March 2010, he founded and served as Chairman, President, and CEO of Hoku Scientific (later Hoku Corporation), a Honolulu-based material science and renewable energy company he co-founded with Kaleo Taft in a Waikiki apartment. He led Hoku through a successful $21 million IPO on the NASDAQ Global Market in 2005, signed customer contracts totaling over $2 billion for polysilicon before the company's Idaho manufacturing plant was built, and secured approximately $500 million in financing from sources including Daiwa Securities, Sumitomo, and Goldman Sachs. Hoku initially focused on hydrogen fuel cell technology before pivoting to polysilicon production for solar panels. When the global polysilicon shortage abated and credit markets tightened, Shindo renegotiated contracts and ultimately ceded control to Tianwei New Energy of China, resigning as chairman and CEO in 2010 while retaining a consulting role. The company subsequently declared bankruptcy. Earlier in his career, from December 1995 to August 1997, Shindo served as President of Mehana Brewing Company in Hilo, Hawaii, a microbrewery he founded.
Following his departure from Hoku, Shindo founded Pono Corporation in December 2012, which through its subsidiaries worked in healthcare data, medical devices, and drug development. From December 2012 to December 2018, he served as CEO of Pono Health, the primary entity of Pono Corporation, based in California, Washington, and Hawaii, providing consulting, data management, analytics, and software development services. He managed healthcare data covering 70% of Hawaii's population as well as clinics in Washington, Oregon, and Arizona, and developed an analytics platform used to calculate gaps in care, cost savings, and other health metrics. Pono Corp. also pursued drug development, including a cancer drug for multiple myeloma originally acquired from the University of Hawaii. Shindo also led IDEAS Health (Information and Data Exchange and Analytic Solutions), which built a digital analytics platform for healthcare after acquiring an analytic platform developed with HMSA funding through a federal Beacon Grant. He additionally served as Chief Executive Officer, Founder, and Chairman of AERWINS Technologies Inc., and has been involved with multiple SPAC vehicles including Pono Capital Corp, Pono Capital Two, Inc., and Pono Capital Four, Inc. Pono Capital Corp completed a business combination with AERWINS Technologies in February 2023, a $750 million deal announced in September 2022. His reported holdings span Pono Capital Corp, Hoku Scientific, Pono Capital Two, New Horizon Aircraft Ltd., and Pono Capital Four, with an estimated net worth of approximately $1.31 million based on reported shares across these companies.
Shindo earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting, Financ
[Origin not recorded. Carried over from /people/shindo-dustin-m-1269, a second record for the same person.]
This record is keyed to SEC CIK 0001321269 — the identifier this person files under in their own name. Every vehicle above is a filing made under that CIK, so “the same person on two shells” is a fact about an SEC identifier rather than about a name that happens to match.
Roles are the strings the filings used, in the order they were filed. Nothing on this page ranks them, infers seniority, or offers a reason why any two of these names recur — a recurrence is a count, and the filings that produced it are linked beside every row. We also hold 7 institutional-holder rows on these vehicles, under 6 distinct name strings, and none of them is counted across vehicles: that table has no CIK column, and matching holders by name would merge firms that are not the same firm.
