Nancy Tellem (born December 13, 1952) is an American media executive currently serving as Executive Chairperson and Chief Media Officer of Eko (formerly Interlude), a technology and interactive storytelling company she joined in April 2015. She is also the co-founder of BasBlue, Inc., a Detroit-based nonprofit organization established in 2021 that provides community, mentorship, programming, and education to underrepresented women and non-binary individuals. Tellem serves as a director on multiple corporate boards, including TKO Group Holdings, Inc. (since September 12, 2023), Gores Holdings X, Inc. (GTEN), and UTA Acquisition Corporation (since November 30, 2021). She has also held board or advisory positions at Metro-Goldwyn Mayer Studios, Rocket Companies Inc., Nielsen Holdings, and Struum, as well as nonprofit boards including the Cranbrook Academy of Art and Museum, the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. She is Co-Chair of the 2027 NCAA Men's Final Four Local Organizing Committee in Detroit.
Tellem's career in entertainment began after she earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley and a Juris Doctor from the University of California Hastings College of the Law (now UC College of the Law, San Francisco). She practiced as a business litigator in Los Angeles for five years, including work on the Howard Hughes estate heir claims, before moving into television. Her early entertainment roles included Columbia Pictures Television, Merv Griffin Enterprises (working on Wheel of Fortune), and Lorimar Television in the business affairs department. When Lorimar merged with Warner Bros. Television in 1987, Leslie Moonves promoted her to Executive Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs, where she was part of the team that launched landmark series Friends and ER. When Moonves moved to CBS Entertainment in 1995, he appointed Tellem Executive Vice President of Business Affairs and President of CBS Productions. In 1998, she ascended to President of CBS Network Television Entertainment Group, overseeing programming, development, production, business affairs, and network operations for both the CBS Entertainment Network and CBS-Paramount Studios, and later The CW. During her tenure, she greenlit and supervised hits including Survivor, CSI, Everybody Loves Raymond, The King of Queens, and Gossip Girl. She stepped down as president in 2010 and served as a senior advisor to Moonves until 2012.
In September 2012, Tellem joined Microsoft as Entertainment and Digital Media President, leading Xbox Entertainment Studios and the company's television strategy. She departed in October 2014 when the studio was shut down. She then joined Interlude (rebranded as Eko) in April 2015 as Executive Chairman and Chief Media Officer, also serving as an investor and board member. Throughout her career, Tellem has been widely recognized for her influence and leadership. She was the second woman in television history to hold the top entertainment post at a major broadcast network. The Hollywood Reporter named her the third most powerful woman in entertainment in 2003, and Forbes ranked her among its 100 Most Powerful Women list from 2006 through 2008 (placing 32nd in 2008). She was inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame in 2006 and received the NATPE Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award in 2008. In 2026, she was named a Michiganian of the Year by The Detroit News for her community leadership and the founding of BasBlue.
A native of Danville, California, Tellem relocated to metro Detroit in 2015 when her husband, Arn Tellem, became vice chairman of the Detroit Pistons (Palace Sports & Entertainment). The couple, married since 1979, has three adult sons and three grandchildren.
