Alvin Shih, M.D., M.B.A., is an experienced physician and biopharma executive who currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Imbria Pharmaceuticals, a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing novel therapies for cardiometabolic diseases, a role he assumed in April 2025 alongside the company's $57.5 million Series B financing round led by Deep Track Capital. He has also served as an Independent Director on the board of Oaktree Acquisition Corp. III Life Sciences (NASDAQ: OACC/OACCU) since October 2024, a blank-check company focused on effecting a business combination in the life sciences sector. In addition to these roles, Dr. Shih has served on the board of directors of Zevra Therapeutics (NASDAQ GS: ZVRA) since January 2024, where he sits on the Compensation Committee and the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, and on the board of Tenza since November 2021. He has also served on the board of Imbria Pharmaceuticals since July 2024.
Dr. Shih's career spans multiple leadership positions across the biopharmaceutical industry, with a consistent focus on rare diseases and areas of significant unmet medical need. Prior to Imbria, he served as President and CEO of Catamaran Bio, Inc., a venture-backed company developing allogeneic cell therapies, from February 2021 to January 2024. From July 2019 to December 2020, he was President and CEO of Disarm Therapeutics, a private neuroscience company developing therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases, which was acquired by Eli Lilly in October 2020. Before Disarm, he served as CEO of Enzyvant Therapeutics from November 2016 to February 2019, where he led the company's cell/tissue-based therapy development for treating a rare immunological disease; Enzyvant was subsequently acquired by Sumitomo. From May 2014 to October 2016, Dr. Shih was Executive Vice President and Head of Research at Retrophin, Inc., working on therapies for multiple disease indications. Earlier in his career, from 2010 to 2014, he was Chief Operating Officer and a founding member of Pfizer Inc.'s (NYSE: PFE) rare disease research unit. Dr. Shih began his industry career as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and LEK Consulting.
Dr. Shih holds a B.A. from Vanderbilt University, an M.D. from the University of Alabama (1998–2003), and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is based in the United States, with professional ties to Cambridge and the Boston area. His track record includes successfully building and guiding multiple companies focused on rare diseases and other therapeutic areas, with two notable exits through acquisitions by major pharmaceutical companies—Disarm Therapeutics by Eli Lilly and Enzyvant Therapeutics by Sumitomo—underscoring his ability to advance programs from early development through to strategic transactions.
This record is keyed to SEC CIK 0001610064 — the identifier this person files under in their own name. Every vehicle above is a filing made under that CIK, so “the same person on two shells” is a fact about an SEC identifier rather than about a name that happens to match.
Roles are the strings the filings used, in the order they were filed. Nothing on this page ranks them, infers seniority, or offers a reason why any two of these names recur — a recurrence is a count, and the filings that produced it are linked beside every row. We also hold 19 institutional-holder rows on these vehicles, under 12 distinct name strings, and none of them is counted across vehicles: that table has no CIK column, and matching holders by name would merge firms that are not the same firm.
