Hans Thomas is a serial technology entrepreneur and venture capitalist who serves as the Founding Partner and CEO of 10X Capital, a New York City-based alternative asset management firm headquartered at One World Trade Center. Established in 2004, 10X Capital operates at the intersection of Wall Street and Silicon Valley, deploying institutional capital across venture capital, private equity, private credit, and public markets through a merchant banking model that encompasses equity investing, debt facilities, SPAC sponsorship, securitization, and capital markets advisory. The firm has built a portfolio of over 150 companies including DraftKings, Palantir, Robinhood, Clubhouse, Overtime, Wish, Compass Therapeutics, 23andMe, Circle, Ripple, Better.com, BitPay, and Bitwise, and Thomas's teams have directly invested in, financed, or arranged over $2 billion in institutional financing for portfolio companies and other fintechs since 2017. Thomas is also Co-Founder and Executive Director of TheNumber, a real estate and financial data analytics platform that powered one of the largest private MBS settlements under the PhoenixABS brand, and he serves or has served as an advisor to AlphaFlow, TheSmarterMerchant.com, and Milo.
Thomas's career in technology and finance began in 1999 on the founding team of InternetCash, a pioneering cryptography-based digital currency and stored-value payments startup backed by the founder of Verisign and over $10 million in venture capital. He subsequently served as Vice President at Venture Dynamics, a New York-based technology venture incubator, from 2000 to 2001, before joining One Zero Capital (also known as 1/0 Capital) in 2001 as Executive Director and Senior Managing Director, a role he has held for over two decades. One Zero Capital operated as an emerging markets hedge fund with approximately $250 million in AUM and a fintech venture incubator that created over $1 billion in enterprise value, with portfolio companies including Better Mortgage, Future Finance, Paribus (sold to Capital One), Climb Credit, Trumid, PeerIQ, Zopa, and Mighty. In 2004, Thomas founded RefinanceOne, an online jumbo mortgage firm that he built from a lead-generation business into a 47-state, nine-figure mortgage originator within three years before exiting in 2007. He also founded and served as Senior Managing Director of Centuriant, a family office focused on commercial real estate finance from 2004 to 2007 and then on workouts and litigation related to securitized residential mortgages (RMBS) from 2008 to 2014, and he served as a board member of International Mercantile DMCC from 2006 to 2010. Thomas graduated from New York University in May 1999 with a BA in Politics.
In the SPAC market, Thomas has served as Chairman and CEO of 10X Capital's SPAC franchise across multiple vehicles. He led 10X Capital Venture Acquisition Corp. (NYSE: VCVC), which completed a approximately $3 billion merger with Israel-based EV technology company REE Automotive in July 2021. The firm's second vehicle, 10X Capital Venture Acquisition Corp. II (VCXAU), raised $450 million and completed a business combination with African Agriculture in December 2023. The third vehicle, 10X Capital Venture Acquisition Corp. III (NYSE: VCXB.U), priced a $261 million IPO in January 2022, targeting high-growth technology and tech-enabled businesses in consumer internet, ecommerce, software, healthcare, mobility, and financial services. Thomas later agreed to step down as CEO of 10X III while remaining as Chairman of its board of directors. Across these vehicles, he worked alongside COO and Director David Weisburd, a General Partner and co-head of venture capital at 10X Capital, and CFO Guhan Kandasamy. Thomas has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News, CNBC, and Asset-Backed Alert for his work in venture capital and fintech, and he is based in New York City.
This record is keyed to SEC CIK 0001828707 — the identifier this person files under in their own name. Every vehicle above is a filing made under that CIK, so “the same person on two shells” is a fact about an SEC identifier rather than about a name that happens to match.
Roles are the strings the filings used, in the order they were filed. Nothing on this page ranks them, infers seniority, or offers a reason why any two of these names recur — a recurrence is a count, and the filings that produced it are linked beside every row. We also hold 67 institutional-holder rows on these vehicles, under 43 distinct name strings, and none of them is counted across vehicles: that table has no CIK column, and matching holders by name would merge firms that are not the same firm.
